Members of the garden are saddened to discover that our community garden cannot continue at the current Tate Street site in Ivanhoe.
The Uniting Church of Australia needs to sell the land to help repay it’s $56 million debt associated with the closure of Acacia College last year.
The Uniting Church is hopeful the land will be sold with the final settlement occurring by March 2014.
Members approached the Banyule City Council last month requesting assistance to find a new home for the garden. As a not-for-profit organisation we do not have the funds required to purchase our own land and are hoping the council may have some land that we can use. We will be attending the council neeting this coming Monday (November 18) to ask if they have any solutions for us. Please come and join us to show your support. The meeting is at 7:30 pm in the council chambers at 275 Upper Heidelberg Road Ivanhoe.
